Residents in High Lane and Disley have reacted with outrage at plans by Liberal Democrat-run Stockport Council to introduce charging at several free car parks in our area.
In February, Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors voted to abolish free parking across all 52 free car parks across Stockport, including the following local ones:
• Brookside Lane
• Buxton Road Library
• Buxton Road Medical Centre
• High Lane Park
Local champion, Elizabeth Arnold has launched a petition against these plans and is asking local people to add their voice to this campaign.
Elizabeth said,
"We pay the highest Council Tax in Greater Manchester and the Liberal Democrats have hiked bills by a further £111.
Now they want to charge us to use our taxpayer funded parks and the local independent shops that are the backbone of our community.
Enough is enough.
